GTA 6 preload date and download size
Preloading opens on 12 November 2026 for digital pre-orders, seven days before the game unlocks on 19 November. Rockstar hasn’t published a download size.
Preloading starts 12 November
Take-Two’s pre-order announcement says players who pre-order digital versions can begin pre-loading on 12 November 2026 “to ensure they are able to play at launch on November 19, 2026.” The PlayStation Store listing describes this as a 7-day pre-load.
Boxed copies also arrive on 12 November, and they contain a download code instead of a disc, so the same date applies if you buy from a shop. See code-in-a-box explained.
How big is the download?
Not confirmed. As of 18 October 2026, neither Rockstar nor the PlayStation or Xbox stores have published an official file size, as GamingBible also reported on 13 October. Numbers circulating online are estimates.
GamingBible also points out that a day-one update could change how much space the game takes once installed. The sensible move is to free up plenty of room on your console before 12 November rather than aiming for a specific figure.
Getting the preload to actually happen
Preloads only start on their own if your console is set up for it. Switching on automatic downloads, keeping system software up to date and leaving the console in rest mode overnight are the usual habits, and GamingBible recommends the same before launch.
