The date is official. The exact minute it unlocks in your region isn’t, yet. ## The date: Thursday 19 November 2026 Rockstar moved the game to 19 November 2026 in a Newswire post (https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/ak3ak31a49a221/grand-theft-auto-vi-is-now-set-to-launch-november-19-2026) in November 2025, and the Take-Two pre-order announcement (https://taketwointeractivesoftwareinc.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/rockstar-games-announces-pre-orders-grand-theft-auto-vi) in June 2026 repeats that date for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Both the UK and the US get the game on the same calendar day. If you buy digitally, you can preload from 12 November, a week early, so the download is out of the way before launch. More on that in the preload guide (https://gta6starterguide.com/guides/gta-6-preload-date-and-download-size). ## What time does it unlock? Rockstar has not confirmed regional unlock times as of 18 October 2026. GamingBible (https://www.gamingbible.com/news/gta-6-release-time-preload-download-size-editions-385283-20261012) noted on 13 October that exact unlock times per region were still to be announced, and warned that retailer countdowns to a specific minute may not be accurate. So treat any “unlocks at 00:00” or “unlocks at 23:00 the night before” claim as a guess until Rockstar, PlayStation or Xbox publish it. We’ll update this page when they do. ## The road to 19 November GTA VI was first set for 2025, then moved to 26 May 2026, and then to 19 November 2026, according to the timeline in GamingBible’s launch round-up (https://www.gamingbible.com/news/gta-6-release-time-preload-download-size-editions-385283-20261012). Pre-orders opened at midnight local time on 25 June 2026 (Take-Two (https://taketwointeractivesoftwareinc.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/rockstar-games-announces-pre-orders-grand-theft-auto-vi)). Want a live clock? The GTA 6 countdown (https://gta6starterguide.com/guides/gta-6-countdown) counts down to the start of 19 November in your own time zone. Rockstar hasn’t published a download size. ## Preloading starts 12 November Take-Two’s pre-order announcement (https://taketwointeractivesoftwareinc.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/rockstar-games-announces-pre-orders-grand-theft-auto-vi) says players who pre-order digital versions can begin pre-loading on 12 November 2026 “to ensure they are able to play at launch on November 19, 2026.” The PlayStation Store listing describes this as a 7-day pre-load (https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/EP1004-PPSA01547_00-GTAVISTANDARD001/). Boxed copies also arrive on 12 November, and they contain a download code instead of a disc, so the same date applies if you buy from a shop. See code-in-a-box explained (https://gta6starterguide.com/guides/gta-6-code-in-a-box-explained). ## How big is the download? Not confirmed. As of 18 October 2026, neither Rockstar nor the PlayStation or Xbox stores have published an official file size, as GamingBible (https://www.gamingbible.com/news/gta-6-release-time-preload-download-size-editions-385283-20261012) also reported on 13 October. Numbers circulating online are estimates. GamingBible also points out that a day-one update could change how much space the game takes once installed. The sensible move is to free up plenty of room on your console before 12 November rather than aiming for a specific figure. ## Getting the preload to actually happen Preloads only start on their own if your console is set up for it. Switching on automatic downloads, keeping system software up to date and leaving the console in rest mode overnight are the usual habits, and GamingBible (https://www.gamingbible.com/news/gta-6-release-time-preload-download-size-editions-385283-20261012) recommends the same before launch. Both come out on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. ## What it costs In the US, the Standard Edition is $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99 (Take-Two (https://taketwointeractivesoftwareinc.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/rockstar-games-announces-pre-orders-grand-theft-auto-vi), Reuters (https://finance.yahoo.com/media-advertising/articles/two-prices-grand-theft-auto-102556254.html)). In the UK, the BBC (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cjrg52egw1ro) reports £69.99 and £89.99. The Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/games/2026/jun/25/grand-theft-auto-vi-pre-orders-open) gives about €80 and €100 for Europe. Prices at individual retailers can vary. ## Standard Edition The Standard Edition is the game itself. Pre-orders and purchases made before the cut-off also get the Vintage Vice City Pack, and digital pre-orders add a free month of GTA+ (Take-Two (https://taketwointeractivesoftwareinc.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/rockstar-games-announces-pre-orders-grand-theft-auto-vi)). The cut-off and what’s in the pack are covered in the pre-order bonus guide (https://gta6starterguide.com/guides/gta-6-pre-order-bonus). ## Ultimate Edition Take-Two describes the Ultimate Edition as “an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story” (Take-Two (https://taketwointeractivesoftwareinc.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/rockstar-games-announces-pre-orders-grand-theft-auto-vi)). The Verge (https://www.theverge.com/games/952204/grand-theft-auto-vi-price) adds that the extras unlock throughout the story and include exclusive in-game stores. Rockstar’s own editions page (https://www.rockstargames.com/VI/editions) lists items such as Goodtime Gear, the Rideout Customs Mod Shop, Sara’s Unisex Salon, the Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor and One-Eyed Willie’s Mod Shop. ## Digital or boxed? Both editions are sold digitally, and there’s a boxed version too, but the box holds a download code, not a disc (Take-Two (https://taketwointeractivesoftwareinc.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/rockstar-games-announces-pre-orders-grand-theft-auto-vi), BBC (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cjrg52egw1ro)). That’s the same thing as “before 20 November”, but if you want the pack, buying by launch day is the safe reading. ## A free month of GTA+ Digital pre-orders also get a free month of GTA+ (Take-Two (https://taketwointeractivesoftwareinc.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/rockstar-games-announces-pre-orders-grand-theft-auto-vi)). The PlayStation Store says it must be redeemed by 31 March 2027 and renews monthly at the regular price after the free month unless you cancel (PlayStation Store (https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/EP1004-PPSA01547_00-GTAVISTANDARD001/)). What’s actually been said about the differences comes down to a few PlayStation features, and plenty is still unconfirmed. ## Same game, same day Both platforms get the game on 19 November 2026, at the same price for each edition (Take-Two (https://taketwointeractivesoftwareinc.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/rockstar-games-announces-pre-orders-grand-theft-auto-vi)). Preloading from 12 November applies to both. ## What “plays best on PS5” means Sony and Rockstar say GTA VI “plays best on PS5”. Polygon (https://www.polygon.com/gta-6-plays-best-on-ps5-pro-rockstar-game/) reports this covers the DualSense controller’s speaker, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, plus Tempest 3D audio and the PS5’s fast SSD for “near-instant” load times. It’s a list of PlayStation hardware features, not a published frame-rate or resolution comparison. ## PS5 Pro and Xbox Series S The PlayStation Store marks the game as PS5 Pro Enhanced, but as Polygon (https://www.polygon.com/gta-6-plays-best-on-ps5-pro-rockstar-game/) and GamingBible (https://www.gamingbible.com/news/gta-6-release-time-preload-download-size-editions-385283-20261012) note, Rockstar and Sony haven’t said what that means for frame rate or resolution. Rockstar hasn’t published resolution or performance targets for Xbox Series X or Series S either. ## What about PC? There’s no announced PC version. GamingBible (https://www.gamingbible.com/news/gta-6-release-time-preload-download-size-editions-385283-20261012) reports the game isn’t announced for PC or Switch 2 and won’t come to PS4 or Xbox One. A reported PC date (https://www.polygon.com/gta-6-pc-release-q1-2027-rumor/) hasn’t been confirmed by Rockstar. More in GTA 6 on PC (https://gta6starterguide.com/guides/gta-6-pc-release). You redeem the code on PlayStation or Xbox and download the game. ## What Rockstar confirmed Take-Two’s announcement (https://taketwointeractivesoftwareinc.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/rockstar-games-announces-pre-orders-grand-theft-auto-vi) says “the physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI, containing a download code inside the box, will be available starting November 12, 2026 to support pre-loading.” The BBC (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cjrg52egw1ro) and Kotaku (https://kotaku.com/physical-copies-of-gta-6-will-just-be-a-code-in-a-box-with-no-disc-at-launch-2000709919) both confirm there’s no disc at launch. ## Why buy the box on 12 November Because boxed copies land on 12 November, you can buy one in a shop that day, redeem the code and preload alongside digital buyers. The game still unlocks on 19 November (GameSpot (https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-preloading-start-date-and-what-to-know-about-digital-and-physical-copies/)). ## Lending, trading and reselling The BBC (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c6210nj8gpro) notes that retailers describe the code as single-use, so it stops working once it’s redeemed. Unlike a disc, you can’t lend the game to a friend or sell it on afterwards. Whether a disc version will ever be released hasn’t been announced. You’ll need an internet connection and a PlayStation or Xbox account to redeem and download. Plan storage space as you would for a digital copy. Here’s what’s worth sorting in the week before 19 November 2026, based on what’s confirmed. ## Before 12 November Decide between Standard and Ultimate, and between digital and a boxed code (price and editions (https://gta6starterguide.com/guides/gta-6-price-and-editions)). Clear plenty of storage, because the download size hasn’t been announced (preload guide (https://gta6starterguide.com/guides/gta-6-preload-date-and-download-size)). Turn on automatic downloads and update your console’s system software, as GamingBible (https://www.gamingbible.com/news/gta-6-release-time-preload-download-size-editions-385283-20261012) recommends. ## Preload week From 12 November, digital pre-orders can preload and boxed codes can be redeemed (Take-Two (https://taketwointeractivesoftwareinc.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/rockstar-games-announces-pre-orders-grand-theft-auto-vi)). Check that the download actually started, and leave the console in rest mode so it can finish. If you pre-ordered digitally, redeem your free month of GTA+ before the deadline (pre-order bonus (https://gta6starterguide.com/guides/gta-6-pre-order-bonus)). ## Launch day Expect a day-one update on top of the preload, which GamingBible (https://www.gamingbible.com/news/gta-6-release-time-preload-download-size-editions-385283-20261012) flags as likely to change the install size. Exact unlock times hadn’t been confirmed as of 18 October 2026 (release date and time (https://gta6starterguide.com/guides/gta-6-release-date-and-time)). For what to actually do in the game first, like building cash early, the cars worth grabbing and the map spots worth knowing, that’s what our unofficial GTA VI Guide (https://gta6starterguide.com/) covers.
